 Facial expressions convey: love, suspicion, interest, anger,


hatred
 Body postures convey relaxation nervousness, boredom
and power
 Physical objects symbolize professional identity, personal
commitments & life style

We communicate our identities every day through non-verbal


communication
Examples- culture, gender, socio-economic
level
 Eye contact is sign of honesty and respect in USA
and UK- it is rude and intrusive in Japan
 Females raise and lower their gaze, glance
sideways- and men?
 Family income level- formal dinner at table or sit
around stove in kitchen and eat together
Non-verbal communication can be
ambiguous
