WORKSHOP 1.1: EXPLORING JING – DIY VIDEO

OBJECTIVE

At the end of this workshop you would have:

 Downloaded & Installed Jing


 Used Jing to snap a picture of your screen and annotate it
 Used Jing to record a video tutorial from your screen
 Share the recorded video with someone online

Estimated Time: 1 Hour and 30 minutes

WHAT IS JING?

Jing is a free software that allows you to:

 SNAP a picture of your screen


 Record Video of onscreen action
 Share instantly on the web

DOWNLOADING & INSTALLING JING

1. Go to http://www.jingproject.com/
2. Download the Windows version of the software
3. Install the software to the default directories
4. Check that the software is properly installed by running it.

1. Watch the Jing Video Tutorial


2. Pay particular attention on how use Jing to
a. Snap & annotate screen captures
b. Record a video
c. Share the recorded video

ACTIVITY ONE: ANNOTATE YOUR DESKTOP

Use Jing to take a screenshot of your desktop and annotate your desktop to show the
following features:

 The START button


 Currently running Applications
 Applications running in the background
 The System Time

Beside the above, you can also annotate other items on your desktop.

The resulting picture should be similar to figure 1 below.

ACTIVITY TWO: VIDEO TUTORIAL OF MICROSOFT PAINT

1. Use Jing to create a video of how to use Microsoft Paint to draw a picture.

2. Your video should not exceed 90 seconds.


3. Save the video and share it with another user online.
4. Ensure that your video can be accessed online.
5. Jing will automatically upload your video to screencast.com account

Write the URL of the video you have shared online in the space provided below.

NOTES

 Remember to save the video you have produced onto the PC & note the filename
 We will be using that video during workshop 1.2 on Exploring YouTube
