The latest fad in the energy world is neat and clean energy.

The Museum of Technology is a

peculiar kind of museum showing wind energy sources. Though dealing with highly
sophisticated and rare technology aspects of energy production, the museum does not want to
be perceived as a place for highly technical people rather a place where learning is fun. The
rationale behind this vision is that renewable forms of energy are the future and general public
should be aware of the importance as well as have a fair understanding of how it is produced.
Needless to say, the museum wants to attract populace of all ages, from children to aged and
from learned to layman. The museum wants to use flyers, logos and pamphlets to convey the
message that this museum is different from others where people can enjoy and learn
something at the same time.

Marketing and promotional methods can be vital in creating a brand image. Thus, the
management of this public entity decided to design and develop its marketing material which
looks cool in appearance but conveys all the required information i.e. it should have the right
balance of fun and information. It should stand out and be eye-catchy. Keeping these aims in
mind, the students of Northumbria University have developed an interesting set of logos, flyers
and information panel.

The logo has a cool dark blue background with white strips signifying wind. There are three
windmills shown, two in the background and one in foreground. The huge images of windmills
in background signify how powerful these power generators are. The other color chosen is
green which conveys that the combination of wind and windmills produce energy which is
green and environment friendly. The front windmill has blades in shape of leaves which further
relates these energy generators to environment. The Museum is popularly known as Wisconsin,
a name which more people relate to and thus the logo displays the name in foreground. The
whole idea to develop this logo is to capture people’s attention and make them think.

The flyer is a double sided A4 page. The theme and color combination of both the sides of the
flyer are similar to the logo, a combination of dark blue, green and white. The windmills are
shown in series which is the actual arrangement of windmills in farms. A small globe with green
arrows signifies that only green energy can save this world and thus wind energy is the future.
The text on the page simply mentions the popular name of the museum and the entitiy’s
website address. The top left corner has the logo in place. The idea is that the front page should
give a brief understanding about the museum and a place(website address) where people can
go and find out more. The back side of the flyer is more informative with much more text. The
text provides information about the usefulness of wind energy in real practical world. Wind
energy is real concept producing tangible results. Further, the page gives information about the
next event with date, time and fees. It also gives a brief insight of what will be covered in the
event and the last date and time to book a seat. At the bottom appears full address of the
museum with contact details.

The information panel talks about the real technical stuffs with beautiful labeled diagrams
showing the front, side and cross sectional views. While the front and side view names various
parts of a windmill, the cross sectional view shows the inner structure of a wind turbine, its gear
box and rotor. The text next to these cross sectional images explains the working of wind
turbine and how wind energy is captured and converted into electricity. The aim of the
information panel is crisply explain the basic concepts of wind energy production.

Thus, these marketing materials are not only attractive and eye-catchy but also possess
sophisticated information. They are aimed to capture attention of people and make them read
about something(Wind Energy) which is not every common and not known to people in
general. The idea is to generate interest about this world saving energy production method and
motivate the world to go for this greener form of energy. While designing, care has been taken
to use colors which are relevant and convey some message without words. This allows to use
less text and those which are present convey all the relevant and required information.
