TINKERPLOTS – MEAN (I)

1. DATA ENTRY

Open Excel.
Enter the following data as two COLUMNS, ensuring that each column has a label.

Score 9 4 5 7 8 7 2 9 4 5 7 8 7 20 9 4 5 7 8 7 60
Set 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 3 3 3 3 3 3 3

Highlight and COPY the completed table.

Open Tinkerplots.
Drag a CASES icon to the worksheet.
Select EDIT / PASTE CASES to enter the data.

2. ANALYSIS

Drag a PLOT icon to the worksheet and enlarge the figure by clicking and dragging
one of the corners.
Click and drag the SCORE label to the horizontal axis.
Click on and drag one point to the right until a linear scale from 0 – 60 appears on the
horizontal axis.
Click and drag the SET label to the vertical axis.
Click on and drag one point until three (3) sets are listed on the vertical axis.
Click on the two “average” measures – mean and median – on the PLOT toolbar. A
triangle represents mean and an inverted T represents median.
To see values more clearly, select VERTICAL REFERENCE LINE

Comment on the measures for the three data sets.
