6 processes in decision making

Six processes in decision making is a reasonable decision making. Mainly it is based on assessing and
comparing different types of alternatives. Logical or reasonable decision making processes are illustrated
as chronological, linear procedures. There are some steps to follow. Each step should be completed
before you go to the next one.

The following are the six major steps in decision making process.

♦ Describe the circumstances and the preferred result

♦ Explore and recognize options

♦ Evaluate and distinguish each option and its consequences

♦ Formulate a decision? Select an option

♦ Decide and execute an action plan

♦ Estimate outcome

Uses:

These six processes are used in some organizations. Conventional moral decision making process can
be very difficult. These complicated processes have been reduced to a simple six step process so that all
the workers can be authorized to take decisions apposite to their status and liability. Moreover the same
step is also used in schools to educate the students how to make an effective decisions.

Merits:

Describing a state and explaining the necessary result can go a long way towards enhancing a condition.
It is essential irrespective of the kind of decision making process. Exploring the entire alternatives raise
the number of facts in the system. This frequently grants rise to alternatives formerly not measured or
may even make choices in regard to other dissimilar decisions.

Demerits:

Sometimes these six steps may become waste of energy and time if there is over concentration to facts in
exploring alternatives. If it directs to a holdup in decision making, there can be useless chances and
unnoticed opportunities.

Occasionally viewpoints and ideas are mistaken for particulars with unnecessary consequences. Hunt for
the finest alternative rather than a useful one may signify even more time wasted, resolutions not being
taken and lost chances.
