The Williams School works with each child to build and enduring
foundation for academic, moral and social success. A Williams School
student embodies integrity, confidence and a love of learning.

Honor before Honors

Dear Williams School Families,

Robert Frost is one of my favorite poets. I thought I would share what is probably one of his most famous poems from 1916’s
Mountain Interval. Its genesis was stated by the author back in August of 1953:

"One stanza of 'The Road Not Taken' was written while I was sitting on a sofa in the middle of England: was found three or four
years later, and I couldn't bear not to finish it. I wasn't thinking about myself there, but about a friend who had gone off to war,
a person who, whichever road he went, would be sorry he didn't go the other. He was hard on himself that way."
Bread Loaf Writers' Conference August 1953

While I am not going off to war, nor do I have any regrets at all, I can relate to being hard on yourself and others and believe
that the paths we take in life truly do make all the difference.

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,

And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay

In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

As you leave for a long weekend, please remember all those who chose a road less traveled by most Americans- Those men and
women who are currently serving in our armed forces, those who have served in our armed forces, and those who made the
ultimate sacrifice so that we may enjoy the freedoms that we so often take for granted.

Best,

Jay

The search committee would like to invite all parents to come and learn about our progress so far and
to offer any input you might have on this process. We are hosting one more session before school is
out and hope that you will be able to work it into busy end of the year schedules. We look forward to
seeing you and hearing your thoughts on this important endeavor.
TO: 6th, 7th, & 8th Grade Students and Parents – FINAL EXAMS

Final examinations will be administered on June 3, June 6, and June 7 according to the schedule printed below. Dismissal
times for middle school students will vary and are explained below. Students may only leave early if they return the
signed permission slip. Students are encouraged to take advantage of these early dismissals; however, students who are
unable to leave will attend silent study hall until dismissal. Please note that these are not help sessions. All help sessions
will have already occurred earlier in the day. Lunch will be offered for students who remain until the regular dismissal
time.

Grades Six, Seven, and Eight: On Monday at 12:30 pm and Tuesday at 11:00 students who have their parent’s
permission may be dismissed following their exams. Buses will not run at this time; therefore, students who would
normally ride the bus will need to arrange alternative transportation if they are going to leave early on exam days. The
school will supervise students who choose to remain until regular dismissal at 3:15 PM. On Tuesday, 6th & 7th grade non-
band students will be dismissed at 11:00 AM following their exam. Eighth grade students and 6th and 7th band students
will remain behind for graduation practice until 12:00. There will be no lunch served on half day dismissals unless a
student is staying until the regular dismissal time.
