    Black’s Classification of Caries

    Class I – Occlusal surface of 2/3 posterior teeth and buccal


    or lingual pits
    Class II – Inter-proximal surface of posterior teeth
    Class III – Inter-proximal surface of anterior teeth
    Class IV – Inter-proximal surface of anterior teeth including
    the incisal edge
    Class V – Cervical third (gingival area of buccal and
    lingual) of all teeth
    *Class VI – Cusp tips of posterior teeth or incisal edges of
    anterior (due to toothwear)
