I’M ON LONG AND THIN ROAD; I’M GOING THROUGH DAYTIME AND NIGHT!

Before I start my writing, I want to mention something I told before about the relationships among EU and
Turkey. The membership of Turkey to EU is necessary, but not obligation because of three reasons. One of
these three reasons is that this membership is a process and this process must complete. Other reason is that
this membership is utility for Turkey, also EU and other states. And last reason is this membership is important
for Turkey if Turkey wants to be effective in international system. However, it is never obligation. If it becomes
reality, maybe, Turkey can be given up this. Of course, the condition of this is to replace something else instead
of this membership.

Consider, there are one child and one mother in a shopping centre. The child sees a store to buy something and
cries. Her mum buys something else to stop her cry. I think EU acts the mother and Turkey acts the child. And
not crying, EU says to Turkey something beautiful, but that’s all. Last week, on October 22-23, 2010 there was a
conference in İstanbul to converse the relationships between Turkey and EU. EU says to the delegations of
Turkey something beautiful, but that’s all. No one knows that when the deliberations related to the
membership start. EU doesn’t want to give any specific date to Turkey. Nevertheless, they are going on saying
something good to Turkey. If we consider that some topics aren’t begun to be discussed and also the decision
of EP (Europe Parliamentary) regarding to North Cyprus was bad, we see that the process of membership isn’t
going well.

Turkey is applying different foreign policies and lots of states like this situation. Almost everyone is pleased
with Turkey and nobody wants to lose new Turkey. But EU doesn’t do anything specific. If someone wants to
win something instead of losing, for this, that person tries and works hard to acquire this. Like this, EU must
start to do something regarding to the memberships of Turkey to EU. Or EU and others are ready to be going to
be.

Turkey started to become westernized with Reform Farman in 1839 and it was going on with Atatürk’s
revolutions. But in that term Turkey has one model to take as an example to develop. But now Turkey has a lot
of models to follow. If we consider new Turkey’s foreign policies and globalization, we can see that it’s
important to win Turkey or to loss. Now the turn is EU! It’ll do something which we will be able to see to win
Turkey or to loss Turkey. If it’s true that EU and others states like new Turkey, they have lots of things to loss.
Isn’t it true?
