ANIMAL HUSBANDRY

The branch of farming which deals with the rearing, feeding,

breeding and caring of domestic animals is called animal husbandry.

Like any other farming practice, the production and management of

livestock needs definite planning for:

(i) Proper feeding of animal.

(ii) Proper shelter for animal.

(iii) Proper breeding of animal.

(iv) Prevention and cure of animal diseases.

(v) Proper economic utilization.

 NEED FOR ANIMAL HUSBANDRY

To ensure supply of milk, meat, wool etc… there is an urgent need for
improving the livestock. Various tools and techniques have been
developed by animal husbandry for improving the livestock to :

(i) Increase milk production.

(ii) Increase meat production.

(iii) Increase fish production.

(iv) Increase wool production.

(v) Increase in the working efficiency of

domestic animal.

(vi) Make proper use of animal waste.

 ADVANTAGE OF ANIMAL HUSBANDRY

The study of animal husbandry is very useful for the economy of a

country. It helps in the following ways:

(i)It helps in the proper management of domestic

animals.

(ii) It provides us various methods to produce good

and high yielding breeds of domestic animal.

(iii) Animal waste are used for enriching the

fertility of the soil.

(iv) Increased yields in animal husbandry brings

more income to the farmer.
