Company profile-
 Today, Castrol India Limited is the second
largest player in the Indian lubricant industry
and is the market leader in the retail
automotive lubricant segment.
 
 The company has leadership positions in
most of the segments in which it operates
including passenger car engine oils, premium
2-stroke and 4-stroke oils and multigrade
diesel engine oils.
 Castrol India has clearly demonstrated its
commitment to Indian consumers for over 80
years, by offering its international range o
f high performance products backed by the
highest level of customer service.

 Castrol India Limited is a Public Limited Company


with 70.92% of the equity held by Castrol Limited
UK (part of BP Group). In 2003 the company's
turnover was Rs.1360.51 cores and Profit After
Tax was Rs. 137.38 cores.
Elf engine oil-
 Total lubrifiants products (TOTAL, ELF and
FINA brands), With operations in more than
130 countries, Total engages in all aspects of
the petroleum industry, including Upstream
operations (oil and gas exploration,
development and production, LNG) and
Downstream operations (refining, marketing
and the trading and shipping of crude oil and
petroleum products).
Objective of the study-
 To know the personal views of “Bilaspur” people
regarding choices among various brands of engine
oil.
 To study which brand of engine oil is mostly
preferred by people .
 Find out factor influencing the people at the time of
purchasing engine oil like quality, safety, price etc.
 To know the leading brand of engine oil in Bilaspur
city.

 Level of significance = 5%
 
 Tabulated value= 9.488
 
The table value of X2 for 4 degree of freedom at 5% level of significance is 9.488. So
the tabulated value < calculated value.

 Interpretation
The calculated value of X2 is higher than the table value. So our Ha (alternative
hypothesis) is accepted.
Findings-
 Castrol is the market leader among all its close
counterparts in the engine oil segments.

 It is found that Quality is the most important


influencing factor for choosing Castrol.

 Advertisement plays a very important factor in


choosing a brand of engine oil.

 The market share of Castrol is high than the elf


engine oil.
Recommendations-
The company should increase promotional
efforts in Bilaspur city to continue its position
in the market as brand leader in engine oil
segments.

The company should also focus on towards the


small packs of diesel engine oil.
Limitation-
 The research is time consuming.
 
 It is expensive to conduct the project.

 Some of the respondents were non willing to


give responses.
Conclusion-
 The Company maintains an open
communication channel with its consumers
and customers and carefully monitors the
feedback to continuously improve its
products and services and set quality
standards to fulfill them.

 From the above study it is concluded that


castrol engine oil is most preferred brand
among the consumers.
