Fluorescence spectroscopy

Lecture # 1
Objectives
After this lecture students will be able to
• Define Fluorescence spectroscopy
• Explain different steps of Fluorescence
Fluorescence spectroscopy
It is is a type of electromagnetic spectroscopy
which analyzes fluorescence from a sample. It
uses usually ultraviolet light, that excites the
electrons in molecules of certain compounds
and causes them to emit light of a lower
energy
Phases of Fluorescence spectroscopy
• Fluorescence
• Vibrational Relaxation
• Phosphorescence

spectroscopy
The ratio of the number of photon emitted and
the number of photon absorbed .It is also
called quantum yield of florescence intensity
and denoted by ф.
