participants. To start off the day, there was a light breeze of around 3 knots from the west. The
second start was abandoned due to a lack of breeze and few sailors took the time to go for a
swim. However soon the sea breeze came in, the wind shifted to South-Southeast and the wind
gradually picked up to about 12-15 knots. Needless to say the teams started roll tacking and
ended up full out hiking. It was a great experience for all the younger sailors to have a variety of
wind conditions. There was also a moderate current that kept the sailors off the line, so they
could not set up quite as early as they would have if there was no current. Following the racing,
Dr. Nunn and Dr. Ellis, who were both on the water all day, held a debrief meeting for all the
sailors. They gave the sailors tips about sailing in the current and the changing wind. Overall, it
was a great experience for all these JV sailors and we hoped they learned a lot from the regatta.
