I. Silas Marner of Lantern Yard

A. Silas is a cloth-weaver.

B. Silas is framed for a crime he did not do.

C. Silas leaves Lantern Yard.

II. Silas in Raveloe

A. Silas helps Sally Oates’ dropsy condition.

B. Silas strokes his gold every night.

C. Silas loves him some pot (that he broke).

III. Godfrey and Dunstan’s Quarrel

A. Godfrey took money from his father to pay Dunsey’s blackmail cost.

B. Dunsey manipulates Godfrey into trying to sell his horse to get the money.

C. Dunsey accidentally skewers the horse while showing off.

IV. The Theft

A. Silas is slow-cooking a pork-chop feast over his fire.

B. Dunsey walks in while Silas is getting firewood and steals all Silas’ gold.

C. Dunsey eats Silas’ pork-chop and leaves.

V. Silas’s Loss
A. Silas discovers his gold gone.

B. Silas searches his cottage several times.

C. Silas heads toward the nearest inn for help.

VI. At the Rainbow Inn

A. The patrons at the inn argue over what kind of cow is best.

B. They argue about the quality of the choir at Raveloe’s church.

VII. Silas at the Rainbow

A. Silas bursts into the inn, accusing random people of stealing his gold.

B. The accused almost come to blows when the bartender calms everyone.

C. Some of the patrons volunteer to help search for Silas’s gold.

VIII. The Suspect

A. Godfrey finds out about his horse’s death.

B. The bartender recognizes a piece of evidence, imagining a suspect.

C. Everyone and their dog gives their testimony of seeing the suspect.

IX. The Character of Squire Cass

A. Godfrey comes halfway clean about his doings.

B. He deflects Cass’s anger to Dunsey, who is still not home.

C. Godfrey is basically cut free from punishment.

X. Silas at Christmas

A. Silas and volunteers give up the search.

B. Silas is invited to church on Christmas Day.

C. Silas declines, preferring to sit and bemoan his loss of everything.
