MEDIA ADVISORY
3 June 2011 | Jakarta – The role of Indonesia as an active contributor to United Nations
peacekeeping operations will be the focus of an interactive dialogue hosted by Universitas Prof. Dr.
Moestopo (Beragama), in cooperation with the United Nations Information Center (UNIC) Jakarta,
on Tuesday 7 June.
The event is part of the activities organized in Indonesia for the International Day of UN
Peackeepers. Admiral Agus Suhartono, Joint Chief of Staff of the National Armed Forces (Panglima
TNI), will deliver the keynote speech. The event will also feature a discussion with eminent
representatives from the police, civilian, and military sides of Indonesia’s peacekeeping presence
on the world stage, as well representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and members of the
academic community. Former Minister of Defense, Mr. Juwono Sudarsono, will also be in
attendance. Indonesia currently has nearly 1,800 uniformed personnel serving in UN peacekeeping
missions, a number that is destined to grow in line with the country’s pledge to become a “top-ten”
contributor.
“This event is a chance for Indonesia’s academic community and the public at large to take stock of
this country’s impressive contributions to United Nations peacekeeping efforts, as well as to discuss
the potential for the future,” said UNIC Director Mr. Michele Zaccheo.
You or your representative are cordially invited to attend this special event.
