Question one:
1. Which wave travels faster, radio waves or light waves? Which has
higher frequency? Which wave has longer wavelength?
2. In the representation of a wave in the drawing, vertical height is
measured in cm. Horizontal axis could be time in seconds or distance in
meters.

a) What is the amplitude of the wave?

b) If horizontal axis is measured as time, what is the frequency of the
wave?
c) If the horizontal axis is measured as distance, what is the wavelength
of the wave?
d) Using the results of parts b) and c), what would be the velocity of the
wave?
e) Draw a similar wave but with a frequency double than the drawn
one. (At the end of the test)

Question two:
A man is standing between two parallel cliffs of a hill and fires a gun. He
hears first and second echoes after 1.5 from cliff 1and 3.5 s from cliff 2.

1. Knowing that the speed of sound in air is 340 m/s calculate d1.
2. Calculate the distance between the two cliffs.
3. The man changes his position and fires his gun again he heard the
echo from cliff 1 after 2 s. at what distance is he from cliff 1 and 2.

Question three:
Joe the pony is used to help pull water from a well 10 m depth. His
owner wants him to pull up large tubs of water, as much as 80 kg, in
each load. Joe is a rather petite pony and can only exert 4000 Watt of
power.

A) What is the kind of work exerted to raise the load?

B) What is the value of the raising force?

C) What is the value of the work done?

D) How long does it take him to raise the 8 kg in each load if he is

using all his powers?
Now we exchanged the pony with a motor that also raises water from
a well. The efficiency of this motor is 0.8 and the maximum energy
used is the same as that of the pony.

E) What is the kind of energy received to the motor? What is its

value?

F) What is the value of work used? In what form is it?

G) What is the value of the lost energy? In what form is it?

Question four:
1. Radar is reading 45 waves per minute and a wavelength is 10 m.
What will be the velocity?
2. The frequency of a sound wave is n and its velocity is v. if the
frequency is increased to 4n, what will be the new velocity knowing
that the wavelength is constant?

 GOOD LUCK
