I am From Tai Thomas I am from an old farmhouse in the country all alone the lights in the windows stark

in the dark landscape I am from the sound of the wind gently rustling the leaves wind soft upon my upturned face the sun warm across my cheeks the grass soft beneath me I am from a sea of grain rolling in waves before me winding dirt roads twining through the country side I have walked miles on all of them

I am from monsters hiding under the bed a gorilla in the closet a vampire in the attic and a father who chased them all away I am from a forgotten place and time bittersweet memories that flit across my mind in them at least some comfort I can find I am from a now silent house in the country all alone all the people are long gone only memories remain

I am from roaring bonfires lighting the night sky burnt marshmallows gleaming in my eye the lone howl of a coyote makes me shiver in delight

I am from the sound of water slapping against the side of an aluminum boat my father sitting next to me putting a wriggling worm on a hook I am from long hot summers and cool swims in the lake climbing trees and riding bikes running down the mountain ignoring the stinging nettles on my legs
