I am going to use the qualitative method of research in gathering my data,

Advantages of qualitative method of research, 1. It enables more complex aspects of a persons experience to be studied Fewer restriction or assumptions are placed on the data to be collected. 2. For example, if I measure depression by asking ten 1-7 scale questions, I can only collect data on these ten things Im asking about. 3. Not everything can be quantified, or quantified easily, and an advantage of qualitative research is that it can investigate these things (for example, individual experiences) 4. Individuals can be studied in more depth 5. Because fewer assumptions are placed on the thing being studied it is great for exploratory research and hypothesis generation 6. The participants are able to provide data in their own words and in their own way. The following are the reasons why am not using quantitative method of research in my dissertation, 1. Collect a much narrower and sometimes superficial dataset. 2. Results are limited as they provide numerical descriptions rather than detailed narrative and generally provide less elaborate accounts of human perception 3. The research is often carried out in an unnatural, artificial environment so that a level of control can be applied to the exercise. This level of control might not normally be in place in the real world yielding laboratory results as opposed to real world results. 4. In addition preset answers will not necessarily reflect how people really feel about a subject and in some cases might just be the closest match.

5. The development of standard questions by researchers can lead to 'structural' bias and false representation, where the data actually reflects the view of them instead of the participating subject
