Application of PLC in the Wind Power Industry Controllers in the wind power industry are mainly used in various

wind power machine units to collect data and working conditions. Through calculating, analyzing, making judgment to control a series of controlling and protecting actions such as starting, stopping, changing directions and starting oil pumps, the controller can help to realize complete automatic control of single wind power generator unit. In addition, it is also installed with the data exchange function with the upper computer so as to enable the upper computer to grasp the operating conditions and exert control on the lower computers, providing convenience for the management of wind power field. While PLCs are mainly applied to the cabinet and engine room of fans, working as pitch regulation and yawing respectively. Thus, PLC belongs to a set of control system. Two PLCs are communicated through fieldbus. Hardware of the major control system of PLCcomposed fans is made up of modules. The control room has enough space to ensure measuring amount and operation safety. PLC controllers are connected by optical cables, communicated via an internet protocol and are equipped with controlling, monitoring and managing functions by the principal computer. The interface is programmed by database as well. Different from other industries, the wind power sector mainly applies large and medium PLCs. The expansion of PLC application in the wind power industry is highly dependent on its replacement of special controller. However, currently, the replacement still has paramount obstacles: first, customers using habits; second, technical barriers. PLC still lags behind special controllers in motion control. As to large power machine units, the technological gap turns to be especially big. Although PLC has advantages regarding low prices, yet as to clients in this new emergent industry not very concerning product costs, such advantage is not that obvious.
