Land of Living Skies

created by Robyn Clay Grade Level: 4 Objectives: Critical/Responsive & Creative/Productive: Students will be able to respond critically and imaginatively to sounds and be able to respond to artistic expressions of other artists through creation of their own. Students will be able to work collaboratively with other students. Materials & Resources: Computers with internet access and GarageBand Set: Ask the question: What do you think of when you think Saskatchewan? Brainstorm a list of descriptors with the students. Development: Ask students to think of how they would represent Saskatchewan if they were to write a song. In small groups of pairs, ask the students to discuss what would be contained in a song representing Saskatchewan. They must decide on at least 2 elements. When they have decided, ask them to start composing a short song (1-2 minutes in length) using GarageBand that contains their ideas. After nishing their song, students will create a short Prezi presentation that tells of their Saskatchewan through pictures. Closure: Students will present their song presentation to the class before reecting on the composition process on their blog. Assessment: Students will be assessed based on their personal reections and the ideas contained in their collaborative song.
