CARPINELLI WILL NAME RETIRED SERGEANT AS UNDERSHERIFF

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 20 2011 Republican candidate for Lewis County Sheriff Mike Carpinelli announced today that if elected Sheriff he will name James Monnat of Croghan as his Undersheriff. Carpinelli said, Jim is a perfect fit for Undersheriff. I am very pleased with his 26 years of experience and LewisCounty is very fortunate to have someone with Jims varied background. He has a career that includes Patrolman in the Village of Lowville, acting Chief of Police for the Village of Lowville, part time Deputy Sheriff for the Lewis County Sheriffs Office and has worked with a number of police agencies in and around LewisCounty as a K-9 handler. The fact that he is willing to come out of retirement to serve once again is a credit to his dedication to LewisCounty. Monnat said, When I retired I never envisioned this opportunity coming along. Now that it has, I am excited about the prospect and look forward to working with Mike. We both share the same values and concerns regarding law enforcement. Mike will bring a wealth of experience to the job of Sheriff. His knowledge, from working for larger police agencies, will be invaluable to this county. As drugs and crime in general increase around us we need someone who has the knowledge to deal with it and I firmly believe that Mike has that knowledge. Monnat, a life long resident of LewisCounty, graduated from Beaver RiverCentralSchool, and served his country in the US Army. He graduated from the Black River St. Lawrence Valley Police Academy and is a certified K-9 handler. He started his career as a part time Patrolman in the Village of Lowville. Passing the civil service exam for Sergeant, he moved into that position in 2001. Monnat served as acting Police Chief in the Village of Lowville for one year and did not actively pursue the permanent position primarily because of the residency requirement. Monnat is also a K-9 handler having trained for that position in 1991. He is married to the former Beth Austin, of Beaver Falls, NY, and they have two grown daughters. Jim and Beth reside on the Swiss Road in the Town of Croghan.
