Mayors Press Conference Notes June 25, 2011 The Canadian Dams have reduced their releases to 16,600

cfs. Alameda has some storage room and Rafferty Dam has one (1) meter of storage. Sherwood has a current flow of 24,000 cfs and is falling. This afternoon, we were informed by the Corp of Engineers and the National Weather Service that the flows from Lake Darling were at 25,000 cfs and will be reduced to 24,000 cfs this evening. They are currently evaluating their future releases. The flow at the Broadway Bridge is about 27,600 cfs or at a height of 1561.59 ft. The good news is higher velocities are allowing for lower levels and higher flow rates, which should result in a crest of about 1561.8 over night. The National Weather Service has forecasted around 1/2 inch of precipitation for the Souris Basin through Sunday morning. We are vulnerable to thunderstorms at these high levels. The rains that occurred on the Des Las Basin last night were not great enough to cause concern in Minot. Broadway is still closed to allow work on the secondary dikes and will remain closed except for emergency vehicles until further notice. We are continuing to evaluate this situation. We are now at the highest level of risk that we have been at during this fight and we will continue to be at this high risk level for the next several days. Please do not travel in the City of Minot unless absolutely necessary. There are several highways closed around Minot and I will have the NDDOT talk about this shortly. Again I want to remind people in Minot and the surrounding area to conserve water. We have had questions regarding the safety of our drinking water. The Director of Environmental Health from the First District Health Unit is here to address the drinking water issue. The City sewer system has been inundated and we are setting up pumps to address the situation. Remember residents should keep their drains plugged.

Shelters are open at the City Auditorium and MSU Dome. The Red Cross reported that we had 268 people stay in the shelters last night and there were 60 reported at the MAFB. The flood hotline will be open 24 hours a day. The number is 858-9366. Captain Dean Lenertz Minot Fire Department PIO City of Minot-Ward County Flood 701-822-3080 dean.lenertz@minotnd.org
