Summer Academy Early Music

Vivaldi in Rome Brush up on your ensemble skills with this course, offering a variety of lessons in orchestral, solo and ensemble playing, as well as lectures by the highly specialized teaching staff and individual lessons. The subject is Antonio Vivaldi and the music he wrote for Rome, including concerti, cantatas and operas. The course is open to singers, strings, woodwinds and basso continuo instruments. Maximum number of participants: 40. Teaching staff includes Peter Van Heyghen, Enrico Gatti, Emanuela Galli, Siebe Henstra, Kris Verhelst, Wilbert Hazelzet, Heiko ter Schegget, Frank de Bruine and Susan Williams. Fiori Musicali: Exploring the Italian Early Baroque This is your chance to play 17th century chamber music in the exciting combination of winds and strings, coached by internationally renowned performers. You will learn more about ensemble playing in meantone, instrumental instruction, and 17th-century basso continuo playing on different keyboard and plucked instruments. There is also room for private lessons. The course is open to players of cornetto, violin, trombone, dulcian, harpsichord, organ and all other continuo instruments. Maximum number of participants: 30. You will be taught by members of the Caecilia-Concert: Kathryn Cok, Bruce Dickey, Bjarte Eike, Wouter Verschuren and Adam Woolf.

Requirements Both courses are open to music students and young professional singers and players. The Fiori Musicali course is also open to advanced amateurs. To participate, please fill out the application form online and upload a recording and a short biography at the site below. Participants will be selected based on their application. During the course will be decided who can play in the Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht 2011. You are welcome to apply as an ensemble, but this does not guarantee acceptance. Participants receive a passe-partout for free entry to all (not sold-out) Festival events.
