Overview
QUALCOMM's CSM6700 Cell Site Modem (CSM) device is a CDMA digital baseband modem for infrastructure and test equipment, with support for IS-95A/B and IS-2000 Revision A, the 3G air interface standard that incorporates forward link (FL) and reverse link (RL) CDMA2000 1X packet data channels. QUALCOMM provides a seamless migration path that allows manufacturers and operators to deliver a new generation of wireless communications. The CSM6700 solution, used to build 3G CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev. A compliant systems, provides an increase of at least six times the overall channel capacity of previous CDMA2000 1X solutions based on QUALCOMM's CSM5000 device. This gives manufacturers the ability to develop products that provide voice, data and multimedia solutions and services over 3G CDMA2000 1X networks. Network operators will benefit from the cost efficiencies, capacity enhancements and fast time-to-market when upgrading existing networks and deploying new data services.

With the CSM6700 device, the path to CDMA2000 1x Revision A maintains backward compatibility with IS-95A/B and CDMA2000 1X Revisions 0 through A networks. Manufacturers deploying CSM6700-based networks benefit from shorter product development times, reduced development and equipment costs, and reuse of hardware, software and network protocols. The CSM6700 device supports over 200 simultaneous users. This flexible architecture provides resource mapping of over 200 RL channel elements and 256 FL channel elements. Each RL channel element performs CDMA demodulation, de-interleaving, sub-packet combining, and Viterbi and turbo decoding. Each FL channel element performs encoding, interleaving and CDMA modulation.

The CSM6700 device efficiently supports four-way receive diversity without decreasing the number of overall RL channel elements. When combined with mobile receive diversity, four-way receive diversity support on the CSM6700 device provides significant improvement in voice capacity and increased FL and RL data rate throughput in weak coverage areas. In addition, the CSM6700 device provides support for custom smart antenna solutions such as beam switching and beam steering, and allows flexible mapping of up to 24 receive and transmit antennas. It also supports the standards-based orthogonal transmit diversity (OTD) and space time spreading (STS) methods of transmit diversity that were present in the CSM5000 device. These capabilities give manufacturers the flexibility to implement their own capacityenhancing solutions. Software support is provided through an application programming interface (API) based on the CSM5000 API. Enabling the highest level of integration while reducing host processor power and overall system power consumption, the CSM6700 device represents the latest modem architecture in QUALCOMM's CDMA2000 1X family.

High-Speed Microprocessor Interface Contains a 66 MHz PCI interface, which supports bus-mastering. The CSM6700 device contains a direct memory access (DMA) engine to allow efficient data transfer of RL data to the external microprocessor Cell Radius Can accommodate cell radii of up to 250 Km Device Drivers Complete software support based on the CSM5000 device API with enhanced data transfer mechanisms to support the needs of the large number of channel elements Package 785-pin thermally enhanced ball grid array (TEBGA) package Voltage 2.5 and 3.3 V I/O, 1.5 V core
