Encryption is a method needed to make the data unintelligible to all but their intended recipient. 2. What is cipher text? The text that is output of the encryption process is known as the cipher text or cryptogram. 3. What is the user agent? The user agent is a program that provides the interface to the mail system. It allows users to compose, send and receive mail and manipulate mail boxes. 4. Differentiate plain text and cipher text. Plain text is the original message that is sent for the intended recipient. Inorder to make the message unintelleligble to the active intruders, through the encryption process, the plain text is converted into cipher text. The output of the encryption is the cipher text. 5. Define cryptography. The process of devising ciphers (converting plain text into cipher text by encryption) is called cryptography. 6. What is meant by data compression?

The process of condensing the long distance message into smaller one to reduce the occupied memory space is called data compression. 7.
