I. Description: This is a nine-week connections course designed to introduce the student to: how a computer operates, keyboarding, word processing, and computer presentation software (PowerPoint). II. Text/Materials: IBM compatible computer systems (Pentium processors) running the Windows XP operating system, high resolution monitors, printers, appropriate software, text, and handouts. III. Major Objectives: By the end of the nine-week period, the student will be able to: A. Demonstrate the basic operation of a computer (ongoing) B. Demonstrate fundamental touch-typing skills (10-13 days) C. Create, format and edit word processing documents (22-25 days) D. Create a PowerPoint presentation (10 days) IV. Requirements: Each student must: A. Bring to class and maintain a notebook consisting of all handouts, written work, and printouts. B. Participate in classroom discussions and activities. C. Complete all classwork and homework assigned. V. Evaluation: This is a lab-oriented class, so a premium is placed on classwork and class participation. The grade will be determined as follows: classwork- 50%, class participation- 10%, quizzes and tests- 40%. VI. Classroom regulations: A. All school rules will be strictly enforced. B. Obey all class rules. C. Bring appropriate materials to class every day i.e. notebook with clean paper, blue or black permanent ink pen, and any other necessary materials. D. Abuse of hardware or software can result in suspension of computer privileges. E.
