Press Release Deliverance Rosalind Davis | Noam Enbar | Leanna Moran curated by Amy McKenny 25 June - 30 July 2011 | Preview 24 July, 7 - 9pm

COEXIST is delighted to present Deliverance, an exhibition curated by Amy McKenny, bringing together the works of Rosalind Davis, Noam Enbar and Leanna Moran. Adorno once saidTruth is inseparable from the illusory belief that from the figures of the unreal one day, in spite of all, real deliverance will come. In this exhibition the works escape, release and liberate - from dystopian landscapes, murky shadows of a past and through the wonders of the secret art of the land of Khem. Through meticulous stitches and brushstrokes Davis creates mixed media paintings. They represent a paradox where the forces of decay seem also to be a way out of the failure of modernity, as if the escape - into the abstractions of surface texture, pattern and also into 'nature' - is simultaneously a trap, a place where we might literally lose ourselves or come undone. Morans work explores childhood, memory and the relationship between mother and daughter. Her powerful and evocative illustrations ask us to confront and question personal abandonment and struggle. Enbar's animated films are rooted in the atmosphere of medieval carnival and come from his research into the practice of Alchemy. He says, the Alchemical processes imagined or staged should not be experienced as vulgar or nostalgic representations of something extinct, but rather as cryptograms, devised to deliver spiritual liberation. Rosalind Davis graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2005. She has exhibited nationally and internationally with work in private and public collections. In 2010 she was selected for the UKYA, ING Discerning Eye and Lynn Painters Stainers Prize. Noam Enbar is a composer, performer and visual artist. He graduated from Goldsmiths College in 2010. He has written music for award winning theatre and dance pieces and for a number of feature films including the political musical documentary Z32 (directed by Avi Mograbi). He has participated in various exhibitions in Israel and the UK and performed worldwide with his musical projects. Leanna Moran has recently completed a BA in Fine Art at South Essex College in Essex.
