4G Wireless Systems

By Vyas Rohan P. Upadhyay Gaurav U.

Introduction
y y y y y y

Fourth generation wireless network communications technology. Based entirely on packet switched networks. Digital networks to provide higher bandwidth. 4G networks will provide an Open Nature. Any device is capable to access the network. 10x faster speed than 3G.

Access Technology
4G is complicated to design and implement. y Advance channels and channel sharing mechanism is required. y Industry experts argue that combining 3G technology standards into new 4G systems will be difficult. y 4G systems will require efficient channel access protocols to provide guaranteed communication with faster speed.

Access Technology
4G Wireless networks will be characterized on four criteria: 1. Seamless network of multiple air interfaces and protocols 2. Improved spectral efficiency 3. IP Based Network 4. Higher data bandwidths (<100Mbps)

Access Technology
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing y Divides a communications channel into a number of equally spaced frequency tones. y A sub-carrier within each frequency band is modulated to carry a portion of the user information. y Each sub-carrier overlaps, but they are all orthogonal to each other, such that they do not interfere with one another.

Implementation Issues
Access y Handoff y Location Coordination y Resource coordination y Support for quality of service y Wireless securities and authentication y Network failure and backup y Pricing and billing
