RAD-SOL-SET-...

Autonomous power supply systems with 12 V DC or 24 V DC

INTERFACE Data sheet 102481_en_05C01 1 Description

With a solar or battery system and a radio module as the load, radio signals from sensors are received independently of the location and therefore the power supply. Depending on the level of power required, solar systems are available in 12 V DC or 24 V DC versions equipped with one, two or four solar panels. Each solar system is also fitted with a battery for temporarily storing power. This means that the battery supplies the load when sunlight decreases and at night. The prewired control cabinet contains all the components required to supply power to the loads, such as a charge controller and battery. The load is installed either inside or outside the control cabinet and is supplied with voltage via a pre-assembled M12 sensor/actuator cable led from the control cabinet.

Solar system operation

When exposed to sunlight, the battery is charged via the solar panel and charge controller. The charge controller is responsible for battery charge management and protects the battery from deep discharge. Connected loads, such as radio modules, are supplied with the relevant system voltage from the solar system. The battery acts as a power storage device.

Example calculations Calculating the connected load

7.2 RAD-SOL-SET-24-100 solar systems The connected load is calculated from the current consumption of the radio module used that is connected to the 24 V system voltage. Example 1: Receiver for the UD system (e.g., RAD-ISM-2400-SET-UDANT): Current loop: Two digital outputs: 25% system reserve: (Maximum connected load for continuous operation) Example 2: Transmitter for the UD system (e.g., RAD-ISM-2400-SET-UDANT): Current loop: Two digital inputs: 25% system reserve: (Maximum connected load for continuous operation) 18.0 mA 20.0 mA 2.5 mA 40.5 mA 10.0 mA 50.5 mA x 24 V = 1.2 W

The solar systems can be used in a wide range of global applications and are specifically designed to supply RAD-ISM-2400 radio modules. As the intensity of sunlight varies considerably depending on the location, connected loads will also vary. Figure 1 on page 5 shows a map of the world divided into different zones. To ensure proper operation of the connected loads and a power reserve of several days, the maximum permissible loads must not be exceeded. Higher connected loads are not constantly available and are only available from time to time. Proper operation of the solar system requires an area that will receive unobstructed sun during the entire year, an optimum tilt angle, and optimum orientation of the solar panel. 7.1 RAD-SOL-SET-12-10 solar systems

54 mA 20 mA 5 mA 79 mA 20 mA 99 mA x 24 V = 2.38 W

The connected load is calculated from the current consumption of the load that is connected to the 12 V system voltage. Transmitter (e.g., RAD-ISM-2400-PIPE-T X) with current loop and two 85 mA digital inputs: 25% system reserve: 21 mA (Maximum connected load for 106 mA x 12 V = 1.272 W continuous operation) For cyclic transmit mode, reliable operation of the radio module is possible even in areas with reduced sunlight, taking ambient conditions and the system reserve into account (see Figure 1). Example 1 When hopkey H005 is used (transmit for 15 seconds every 5 minutes), it is possible to operate in an area where a constant power level of approximately 65 mW can be drawn. Example 2 When a hopkey is used which, for example, transmits for 15 seconds every 15 minutes, it is possible to operate in an area where a constant power level of approximately 24 mW can be drawn. In this case the solar system could, for example, even be used in Scandinavia.
