When exposed to sunlight, the battery is charged via the solar panel and charge controller. The charge controller is responsible for battery charge management and protects the battery from deep discharge. Connected loads, such as radio modules, are supplied with the relevant system voltage from the solar system. The battery acts as a power storage device.

RAD-SOLSET-...
The solar systems can be used in a wide range of global applications and are specifically designed to supply RAD-ISM-2400 radio modules. As the intensity of sunlight varies considerably depending on the location, connected loads will also vary. Figure 1 on page 5 shows a map of the world divided into different zones. To ensure proper operation of the connected loads and a power reserve of several days, the maximum permissible loads must not be exceeded. Higher connected loads are not constantly available and are only available from time to time. Proper operation of the solar system requires an area that will receive unobstructed sun during the entire year, an optimum tilt angle, and optimum orientation of the solar panel. 7.1 RAD-SOL-SET-12-10 solar systems
54 mA 20 mA 5 mA 79 mA 20 mA 99 mA x 24 V = 2.38 W
The connected load is calculated from the current consumption of the load that is connected to the 12 V system voltage. Transmitter (e.g., RAD-ISM-2400-PIPE-T X) with current loop and two 85 mA digital inputs: 25% system reserve: 21 mA (Maximum connected load for 106 mA x 12 V = 1.272 W continuous operation) For cyclic transmit mode, reliable operation of the radio module is possible even in areas with reduced sunlight, taking ambient conditions and the system reserve into account (see Figure 1). Example 1 When hopkey H005 is used (transmit for 15 seconds every 5 minutes), it is possible to operate in an area where a constant power level of approximately 65 mW can be drawn. Example 2 When a hopkey is used which, for example, transmits for 15 seconds every 15 minutes, it is possible to operate in an area where a constant power level of approximately 24 mW can be drawn. In this case the solar system could, for example, even be used in Scandinavia.

The battery system is specifically designed to supply RAD-ISM-2400-PIPE-TX radio modules using hopkey H060 or H120. 9.3 Example calculation Calculating the required connected load
9.5
The connected load is calculated from the current consumption of the radio module used that is connected to the 12 V DC system voltage. Transmitter (e.g., RAD-ISM-2400-PIPE-TX) with current loop and two digital inputs: 85 mA 25% system reserve: 21 mA (Connected load of the radio 106 mA x 12 V = 1.272 W system) For cyclic transmit mode, reliable operation of the radio module is possible for a period of 1 to 2 years, taking ambient conditions and system reserves into account. Example 1 When hopkey H060 is used (transmit for 15 seconds every 60 minutes), the radio module can be supplied for approximately 1 year using the battery system. Example 2 When hopkey H120 is used (transmit for 15 seconds every 120 minutes), the radio module can be supplied for approximately 2 years using the battery system. 9.4 Pin assignment Figure 10 Installation example for the RAD-BAT-PAC-12-19
