Meta-cognitive Reflection 3 Biology Year 3 Formative Assessment 2

I included this piece of work in my portfolio because through failing this assignment I learnt a more efficient way of studying in class, especially in biology. Also, after I have implemented the new method, I improved greatly on the study of biology during EOY of sec 3. This is a formative assessment of the first topic of sec 3. As a scholar, I came to Singapore only at sec 3.During my first few month of studying I have put in my focus and effort on biology and was confident before this assessment has take n place that I can score great. After being shock by the red -crosses on my paper, I reflect upon myself on the way I had used in learning biology is not effective. I used to learn best when listening to teachers and taking down notes at the same time. Also, I remember and understand the key points better during my copying down what the teacher has shown or said. This strategy is good in a way that I can identify in my notes the places where I did not understand thus I can check on them after school or by asking the teachers. However, this caused me to either missing some of the messages or taking down incomplete or wrong notes. From the assessment, I can see that a most of them are not due to lack of knowledge. Thus, I conclude that my habit in taking notes had infringed my accepting the teachers messages as an autistic learner. W hen I was taking notes, I would be at a slower rate than the teacher so I always miss some of the keypoints which I should take notice of.

After analyzing the problem with my way of learning in Biology I concluded: I should listen to the teacher more attentively throughout the classes. I should also take short notes for important points instead of copying every world the teacher has taught. My biggest takeaway is that I can be a more efficient learner if I listen and remember what the teachers are saying before I taking down notes as reference for later use.
