A venturi tube
R S T

Air flow direction A B The figure shows the water flowing at a steady rate at a venturi tube. C

What is the level of water for each point of the tube?

Point A B C

Level

S Air flow direction A B T C

Point Point AA BB CC

Level Level RR TT SS

Observation: When water is flowing at a steady rate, water level at point A is the highest and its level at point B is the lowest. Explanation : When water flow into narrower section of a tube, its speed increases, hence, at B, the water flows at a higher velocity and its pressure is the lowest.

BLOWING ABOVE A THIN PIECE OF PAPER

The movements of paper were caused by unbalanced forces. The force is produced by the difference in pressure on both sides of the paper. Since the blown air is moving faster than the still air, the pressure of fast flowing fluid will decrease. decrease. The higher atmospheric pressure which acts at the bottom of the paper pushes up the paper.
