ADVERSE REACTION

ADVERSE REACTION: CNS: coma from water intoxication, seizures, subarachnoid hemorrhage from hypertension. CV: arrhythmia; hypertension, increased heart rate, systemic venous return and cardiac output. GI: nausea, vomiting. GU: abruption placenta, increased uterine motility, impaired uterine blood flow, pelvic hematoma, postpartum hemorrhage, uterine rupture. Other: anaphylaxis CNS: permanent CNS or brain damage, neonatal seizures CV: bradycardia, tachycardia Hematologic: hyperbilirubinemia Respiratory: anoxia, asphyxia Other: fetal death

> Monitor and record uterine contractions, heart rate, BP, intrauterine pressure, FHB, and blood loss every 15 mins. > Be alert for adverse reactions and drug interactions. > Monitor fluid intake and output. Antidiuretic effect may lead to fluid overload, seizures and coma. > Assess patients and familys knowledge of drug therapy.
