Brief

F3 Design is a well established Plastics Company, active in the design and manufacture of innovative products for the home. HJC Design was instrumental in the design and development of their earlier charging station that exceeded market expectations. F3 Design returned to HJC with the challenge of designing a product that could accommodate the next generation of mobile phones.

Method
Research into the latest mobile phones determined the required width adjustment. This data, along with other test results from F3 Design, helped create the initial design specification. These findings were used to shape a range of concepts with a strong focus on mechanisms for width adjustment, and methods to accommodate double sockets. Compliance with European safety standards was paramount at every stage due to the products nature and location. Throughout the project constant emphasis on the manufacturing process kept tooling and production costs to a minimum. This expertise allowed HJC Design to collaborate with the mould tool manufacturer by producing all insert data to maintain the design intent.

Solution

This ingenious charging station provides a safe and tidy solution for mobile phones. The station adjusts to fit any phone and is supported by the phones charger. A unique transferable rear plate allows either left or right locations to suit single or double gang sockets. The excess cable is neatly stored behind the unit for safety during use and presents a clutter-free environment.
