InterAction Names New Senior Director of Public Policy

WASHINGTONMark A. Lotwis has been appointed Senior Director of Public Policy at InterAction, a Washington, D.C.-based alliance of U.S. international nongovernmental organizations (NGO). In his new position, Mark will be responsible for directing InterActions policy work, helping to shape important policy decisions on humanitarian, relief and long-term development issues. He will also serve as a member of the senior management team. Mark brings his extraordinary advocacy leadership to the U.S. NGO community at just the right time, said Samuel A. Worthington, InterActions president and CEO. With congressional efforts underway to severely reduce the 2012 U.S. foreign affairs budget, Marks keen legislative insight and constituency-building skills will be invaluable in galvanizing support for international development and relief work. Prior to joining InterAction, Lotwis served as Senior Director for Campaign Advocacy at the Save Darfur Coalition where he led both advocacy and external relations efforts. Other past positions include stints as executive director of the 21st Century Democrats, a political action committee; partner at strategic communications firm Strother-DuffyStrother; and chief of staff to U.S. Representative Ted Strickland (D-OH). Lotwis holds a Ph.D. in political science from The American University, and a B.S. in human ecology and political science from Ramapo College of New Jersey. He begins his new role on August 8, 2011.
