Region 1 On-the-Job Training (OJT) Program there are two eligibility requirements for individuals interested in the Workforce

e Investment Act (WIA) Federal Program; 1) laid off through no fault of their own or 2) economically disadvantaged adult (can be underemployed). Interested individuals are required to enroll with WORKFORCE West Virginia, meet with a Workforce Advisor (who determines their eligibility), and take the WorkKeys assessment in Applied Mathematics, Reading for Information, and Locating Information. If appropriate, the Workforce Advisor will refer the individual to the Business Services office for pre-screening. Referral is not a guarantee for acceptance into the program. If accepted, the individual will receive assistance with job development. Businesses are contacted for an appropriate job match. This is a hire first, train later, reimbursement program. We can also do the reverse; write a contract with a business first and then recruit into it; referrals are made to the business for them to interview or if the business interviews someone they are interested in and believe they may meet the eligibility requirements the business can refer them to our office and we will walk them through the process. The WIA eligibility must be determined and the contract must be written before the individual is hired. The timeframe for the OJT contract is a maximum of 499 hours. The company is reimbursed up to 50% of their normal wages on a monthly basis; must offer permanent full time positions, and offer a minimum of 35 hours a week to the participant. Businesses will have the following options regarding starting minimum wage requirements: 1. $8.50 per hour 2. $8.00 per hour with 25-50 cent increase upon completion of all work activities and OJT hours; or 3. $7.50 per hour with full benefits The business may also apply for a Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC). If you have any questions, or would like to meet to discuss this program, please contact us.
