Wayanad is located in the Western Ghats over an elevated picturesque mountainous plateau at a height of 700 to 2100 meters above sea level. Towards the east of Wayanad are the Nilgiris and it shares a border with Calicut and Cannanore districts on the west, Malappuram district on the south and Coorg district of Karnataka towards the north. The surrounding forest and distance from the mean sea level results in a healthy weather. Wayanad is one of the most lovely hill stations in Kerala. Here one can find a unique terrain due to the valleys, rocks and hills. The mountains and forests provide opportunities for adventure sports as well as trekking routes and outback trails. The climate of Wayanad is pleasant for a long span in the year with temperatures varying from 18 to 29 degrees Celsius while during the south west monsoon the humidity may reach up to 95 percent.

Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary The Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary also known as Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary. This sanctuary shares a border with the Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary in Tamil Nadu and the Bandipur National Park in Karnataka. It is a section of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and comprises of deciduous forests. The sanctuary is a home to animals like monkeys, elephants, leopards, tigers, panthers etc. Pookote Lake Pookote Lake is situated at a height of 2100 meters above sea level and is the only one of its kind in Kerala. At this lake there is a fresh water aquarium that has several varieties of fish, spices and handicrafts emporium, a childrens park and boating facilities. Jain Temple The Jain Temple is regarded to have been built during the 13th century and has been used as a Hindu shrine as well as an ammunition store for the marching armies of Tipu Sultan.
