    Alasdair Rankin of the Scottish National Party was elected in the Ward 11 City Centre council by-election on August 18, 2011. Turnout for the by-election was 23.4% compared to 50.8% in 2007. Alasdair Rankin received 797 first preference votes, 24.2% of the total, and was elected on the fifth count. Six candidates were on the ballot and competed for the seat.
