Clinical Bridging Course

The School of Primary Health Care, Monash University has been offering a Clinical Bridging course for over ten years, to assist overseas trained medical graduates prepare for the Australian Medical Council (AMC) clinical examination. This six week program will be offered again on four separate occasions in 2011.
The Clinical Bridging Course is a case based program and involves an interactive approach that provides participants with hands-on experience, using simulated clinical scenarios. All course participants are given adequate opportunity throughout the course to practise their skills in the simulated clinical scenarios (role plays), with feedback provided following their performance/s. This course will prepare candidates in developing a strategic approach to the AMC clinical examination and will cover the required areas of: Medicine Surgery Obstetrics and Gynaecology General Practice Paediatrics Psychiatry The course is held over a six week period, one day per week (Tuesdays from 9.305.00 pm) at the School of Primary Health Care, Monash University, Building 2, 270 Ferntree Gully Rd, Notting Hill.

In particular, there is emphasis on good communication skills as well as revision of physical examination technique. This program is under the direction of Associate Professor Lyn Clearihan, who is the Director of Graduate Studies and Professional Education in the School of Primary Health Care, Monash University. The Course Coordinator is Dr George Zaharias, Senior Lecturer in the Department of General Practice (DGP). Both Dr Zaharias and Associate Professor Clearihan have been involved in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and assessment for many years. Dr Zaharias is assisted by several expert lecturers from the DGP. Previous students of the course also assist, together with simulated patients, providing first-hand experience of the examination process and valuable insights into aspects of illness and health care in the Australian context.
