e are well into the dog days of summer with temperatures in the south surpassing 95 degrees on a regular basis. Hopefully all of you are taking the necessary precautions to avoid dehydration and heat exhaustion as you pursue your outdoor interests this time of year. We have some great new outdoor products to introduce you to in this issue, especially for campers. Check out pages 42 - 47 for a complete listing, but highlights include A-frame tents, lanterns, and a very cool sleeping bag. The DualTemp Sleeping Bag is ideal for changing weather conditions. One side is designed to keep you warmer when it is 10 or 20 degrees; flip the bag over and it is designed to keep you on a night that is not as cold 30 or 40 degrees. For all of you car buffs out there, youll be interested in knowing that the 100-percent electric, zero-emission Nissan LEAF was recently named 2011 World Car of the Year at the New York International Auto Show, edging out the BMW 5Series and the Audi A8 for the top spot. Todays award is the latest in a string of accolades for the worlds first affordable mass-market, all-electric vehicle for the global market, which was also named European Car of the Year. Another fun item to note is that the VW Beetle is making a comeback! When the first Beetle rolled off the production line, it was called simply the Volkswagen the peoples car but its distinctive shape inspired nicknames across the globe: Beetle, Kafer, Vocho, Coccinelle, Fusca or Maggiolino! In total, 21.5 million cars were sold. More than 60 years later, in 1998, the New Beetle rekindled the spirit and imagination of the original to a new generation of Volkswagen owners. The second generation version sparked another round of uplifting and joyous enthusiasm known as Beetle Mania. Today, the Beetle opens a new chapter in its remarkable story. The third generation of the internationally beloved Beetle is celebrating a transcontinental world debut simultaneously in Shanghai, Berlin and New York. Enjoy your summer guys! Dodge Ram Great Choice for Diesel Truck with Towing Capacity
30,000-lb. GCWR and Max Tow The new Ram 4500/5500 Chassis Cab GCWR upgrade is part of an optional Max Tow package, and is available on both regular and crew cab models and in 4x2 and 4x4 configurations. The Ram Max Tow package includes a new transfer case gear set and chain and sprocket upgrades, recalibrated transmission software and an enhanced collection of thermal management devices. Ram 4500 and 5500 Chassis Cab trucks come equipped with the proven, commercial-grade 305 horsepower (228 kW) @ 2,900 rpm and 610 lb.-ft. (827 Nm) @ 1,600 rpm 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel engine. Max Tow is available on Ram Chassis Cab trucks equipped with the optional, commercial-grade Aisin six-speed automatic transmission and 4.88 rearaxle ratio. A 4.44 axle is standard on 4500 models and not available with the Max Tow package. A class-exclusive six-speed manual transmission is standard on Ram 4500 and 5500 Chassis Cab models. The 30,000-lb. GCWR gives the Ram Chassis Cab a 4,000-lb. increase in trailertowing capabilities, up to a maximum of 22,300 lbs. on a Ram 4500 or 5500 Chassis Cab equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission and unsurpassed GCWR on Class 4 Chassis Cab trucks. Ram also offers a Class 3 Chassis Cab truck. Ram 3500 Chassis Cab trucks are powered by the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 and will add a new six-speed automatic transmission in 2012 that will increase GCWR to 20,000 lbs. a 3,000-lb. increase -- as well as provide an increase in fuel economy. With a standard 383 horsepower, 400 lb.-ft. of torque 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine, the Ram 3500 Chassis Cab delivers best-in-class horsepower and torque. The Cummins Turbo Diesel is available an option on Ram 3500 Chassis Cab trucks. Designed for Towing Ram Chassis Cab trucks are specifically designed for towing, with features such as the strongest exhaust brake in the industry 49 percent stronger than the nearest competitor -and the largest brake rotors and pads in their class. Ram has also upgraded the trailer brake controller on Chassis Cab trucks to include electric over hydraulic capability, to further enhance its towing ability.

reat Smoky Mountains National Park encompasses 800 square miles in the states of Tennessee and North Carolina and is the showcase for some of the most inspiring natural and cultural treasures that the Southern Appalachians have to offer. The Parks abundant plant and animal life and historical significance, coupled with its accessibility, makes this park the most visited in the nation with over nine million visitors annually. GSMNP lies within 550 miles of one-third of the American population. The Park boasts more than 1,100 front country campsites, 100 backcountry campsites, 800 miles of trails, 700 miles of streams, 11 picnic grounds, three visitor centers and numerous scenic overlooks. American black bears, deer, turkeys, flowers and other wildlife are popular with nature photographers in the Smokies. The Parks intricate trail system provides access to view the diversity of life in the Smokies. Many salamander and plant species are found nowhere else in the world, and the forests contain more tree species than any national park. Your safety depends on your own good judgment, adequate preparation, and constant attention. Backcountry hikers should be in good physical condition and be able to survive on their own. Proper equipment and the knowledge of how to use it are essential for a safe trip. Your safety is your responsibility. Here are a few basics to help you get started: Let a responsible person know your route and return time. Have them contact the park at (865) 436-1230 if you do not return within a reasonable time. Always hike with another person. Keep your hiking party together and stay on officially maintained trails. Always keep children in your sight when hikingdo not allow them to get ahead of you or fall behind. Carry a current park trail map and know how to read it. Carry 2 small flashlights or headlampseven on a dayhike. If you have trouble on the trail, darkness may fall before you can finish your hike. Take adequate waterminimum 2 quarts per person per day. All water obtained from the backcountry should be treated either by filtering or boiling. Carry a small first aid kit. Check the current weather forecast and be prepared for quickly changing conditions. Wear shoes or boots that provide good ankle support. Avoid hypothermia (the dangerous lowering of body temperature) by keeping dry. Avoid cotton clothing. Dress in layers that can be easily removed or added as you heat up or cool down. Always carry a wind-resistant jacket and rain geareven on sunny days! Dont attempt to cross rain-swollen streams; they will recede rapidly after precipitation stops and the wait may save your life! When crossing any stream more than ankle-deep: unbuckle the waist strap of your pack, wear shoes, and use a staff to steady yourself. Summer is here and boating enthusiasts everywhere are flocking to the waterways, ready for some relaxing fun in the sun and waves. The idyllic vision of lazy days spent cruising on the water are often met with the unexpected reality of engine noise so loud, conversation becomes impossible and the noise itself becomes an assault on the senses, not to mention the impact on wildlife and local residents living within earshot of the waterfront. Cincinnati residents Roy and Chris Emerson couldnt wait to hit the water last August in their newly purchased 2007 Yamaha SX230, a 320-horsepower, 23-foot, high output designed for luxury and performance, the perfect craft for spending a comfortable day on Brookville Lake in Cincinnati. What the Emersons didnt realize until after they launched was the unbearable noise emanating from the boats dual engines, a high decibel whine that resonated through the cabin floor area. The Emersons had to shout in order to carry on a conversation, and the relentless blare cut seriously into the couples enjoyment. The thrill of spending recreational time on the water quickly turned sour. My wife said she didnt know if she could deal with the noise, Emerson said. Since the Emersons bought their boat late in the summer, Roy Emerson had the entire winter to research noise reduction options for marine applications. I belong to a group of jet boaters, and I asked some of the other members if they had found any noise reduction material that worked, Emerson said. Almost everyone who had tried one solution or another told me they were disappointed with the results, but one guy had used. Acoustiblok on the sides of the engine wall, and he said it worked great. It was the only noise reduction product that anyone could tell me worked on boats, so I decided I had to try it. Emerson purchased the Acoustiblok material with the help of Acoustiblok sales consultant Paul Getts. Emerson custom measured, cut, and applied the material himself to the sides of the engine wall, the top of the engine cover, and the large cover that fit over the gas tank area. The result, Emerson said, is a boat so quiet, he and his wife can talk, relax, and enjoy their weekend boating getaways without the rattle, roar, and reverberation that had severely detracted from the enjoyment of their boating experience and caused them to second-guess their choice of recreation. Emerson completed the project just in time to enjoy the entire summer cruising and relaxing on the waters of Brookville Lake and Lake Cumberland in Somerset, Kentucky, two of the couples favorite boating spots. The change was immediate, Emerson said of the couples first trip out on the boat after the Acoustiblok installation. Now were experiencing the fun and recreational boating lifestyle we envisioned when we first decided to buy the boat.

LS3 on manual-equipped models. Both engines are derived from the LS3 that debuted on the 2008 Corvette, with an aluminum block (with cast iron cylinder liners) and aluminum cylinder heads. Horsepower for the L99 is 400 (298 kW) at 5,900 rpm and torque is 410 lb.-ft. (556 Nm) at 4,300 rpm. The LS3 develops 426 horsepower (318 kW) and 420 lb.-ft. (569 Nm). Output on the L99 is lower than the LS3 because of a slightly lower compression ratio (10.4:1 vs. 10.7:1) and design features of the Active Fuel Management System. The L99 is paired exclusively with a six-speed automatic transmission. All Camaro models can be equipped with either a six-speed manual or sixspeed automatic transmission. The Aisin AY6 six-speed manual is standard with the 3.6L engine, and a Hydra-Matic 6L50 six-speed automatic is optional. A Tremec TR 6060 six-speed manual is standard on the SS, and the Hydra-Matic 6L80 sixspeed automatic is optional.

he Jaguar XF sport sedan enters its third model year with a major powertrain change; for 2011, the 5.0-liter AJ-V8 Gen III direct-injection engine, already standard on the XF Premium model, replaces the previous 4.2-liter V8 in the XF base model. As a result, the entry Jaguar now offers 385 hp and 380 lb.-ft. of torque, substantial increases over the 300 hp and 310 lb.-ft. for the 2010 4.2-liter model, and can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds. How does one reinvent a look that is so recognizable and unique?

The Beetle is now characterized by a clean, self-confident and dominant sportiness. The car not only has a lower profile; it is also substantially wider, the front hood is longer, the front windshield is shifted further back and has a much steeper incline. All of this creates a new dynamism, explains Klaus Bischoff. The 2012 Beetle is 71.2 inches wide (3.3 inches wider), 58.5 inches tall (.5 inches lower) and 168.4 inches long (6 inches longer). The new focal point is the C-pillar. The development team also increased the cars track widths and wheelbase. All of this gives the Beetle a powerful appearance with muscular tension. Another feature is the rear spoiler that is integrated into the design (standard on 2.0L TSI engines with 200 hp). The top surface of the rear spoiler is black, while the underside is painted in body color. The Beetle is sportier, offering both turbo-charged TDI Clean Diesel and turbo-charged gasoline engines, in addition to dual exhaust, performance-handling packages, 19-inch wheels, sport seats and new, sleeker styling. Volkswagen will offer a panoramic roof, a range of audio options, including the Fender Premium Audio System, and a customization program for the 2012 Beetle with a large number of personalization options, including a wide variety of colors and wraps along with an annual theme model. Interior The 21st Century Beetle offers an agile, driver-oriented coupe experience with a quality of materials that goes beyond all class limits. The cars styling, ergonomics and quality interact to create a new, friendly car with a highly individual nature. The shape and use of color in the painted or carbon-look dashboards harkens back to the design of the first Beetle. Three round instrument gauges are arranged in front of the driver (tachometer, speedometer, fuel gauge) providing all key information at a glance. A multifunction display is integrated in the speedometer in middle position. The steering wheel is specially designed with optional painted accents in the spokes, depending on the equipment line. Framed by two air vents, the selected audio/navigation system is optimally located in the drivers visual field on the dashboard. Within easy reach, climate controls are situated just below. Similar to the original Beetle, the new car has an extra glove box integrated into the dash. The lid folds upward, while the standard glove box opens downward. Another classic feature: the optional auxiliary instruments above the selected audio/ navigation system: oil temperature, clock with stopwatch function and boost pressure gauge. The cathedral ceiling dome roof of the New Beetle has been replaced with a sleek and sporty roofline. Front and rear passenger headroom remains plentiful. In the rear seating area, the longer roof section results in more space. The trunk is significantly larger, offering 10.9 cubic feet of space. A splitfolding rear seat and a wide opening trunk lid ease loading and unloading. Engine and Transmission The 2012 Beetle will offer three engines: the 2.5L gasoline five cylinder, the 2.0L TDI Clean Diesel and the 2.0L TSI turbocharged gasoline engine. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual or optional 6-speed automatic on 2.5L models. Volkswagens acclaimed DSG 6-speed dual-clutch transmission will be offered on the TDI Clean Diesel and 2.0L TSI turbocharged gasoline models, while a 6-speed manual will come standard. 60

Volkswagen Group Design Chief Walter de Silva and Volkswagen Brand Design Chief, Klaus Bischoff, welcomed the task and set an ambitious objective: Design a new original! The designers wanted to develop the new car around the earliest Beetle profile rather than the 1998 New Beetle. They wanted a car that respects the past but looks toward the future. And that is what they created. Exterior The 2012 Beetle is an automotive icon reinvented. Placing the original Beetle and the 21st Century Beetle next to one another, its clear that the lines of the rear sections are nearly identical, but the overall look is bolder and more dynamic. The Beetle also breaks free of the design geometry defined by three semi-circles (front wing, rear wing, domed roof above it).

The 2012 Beetle 2.0L TDI Clean Diesel is the most fuel-efficient Beetle ever. The quiet, four cylinder 2.0L TDI Clean Diesel engine produces 140 hp and 236 lb.-ft of torque. It meets all U.S. emission limits and offers manufacturer estimates of 40 mpg highway, 29 mpg city, and 33 mpg combined. Fuel economy values are also improved up to 10 percent over prior 2.5L five cylinder engine models. Mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, it offers manufacturer estimates of 22 mpg city and 31 mpg highway. The optional 6-speed automatic offers manufacturer estimates of 22 mpg city, 29 mpg highway. The five cylinder engine produces 170 hp and 177 lb.-ft of torque. The Beetle 2.0L TSI is the sportiest model offered. With 200 hp and 207 lb.-ft of torque, power delivery will remain smooth and direct across the rpm range. The four cylinder turbo engine is estimated to provide 30 mpg highway fuel economy. To ensure that power is applied properly in challenging conditions, the 2.0L TSI model features the XDS cross differential (limited-slip) system. The system electronically monitors input from various wheel sensors and, in the event of slippage, transfers extra torque to the wheel or wheels with the most traction. Premium Features The 2012 Volkswagen Beetle will be available in two trim lines: Design and Sport. Each has a unique character. The Beetle can also be customized with a wide choice of optional features. Key features include: Radio-CD and radio-navigation systems. Standard in the Beetle is the RCD 310 sound system with 8 speakers (includes dual tuner). The premium VIII top audio system is the RCD 510 with integrated CD changer, interface for SD cards and touchscreen. For the first time ever, navigation will be offered in the Beetle, with the RNS 315 featuring a 5-inch touchscreen, CD player and SD card slot.
