These socks are worked toe-up.

I created these socks to match a hat I made for my cousins baby, I couldnt find any pattern to match the hat, so I made a basic sock for the heel down, and incorporated the same fan pattern from the hat for the leg of the sock. Came out pretty well for my first sock ever! Enjoy. Needles: size 5 (3.75mm) dpns Yarn: Stitch Nation Bamboo Ewe in Mermaid (or any medium weight yarn Abbreviations: dpns : double point needles incr : make a new stitch using an Simple Cast On (backwards "e" or thumb cast on) k: knit k2tog: knit 2 stitches together as one ndl(s): needle(s) p: purl rnd(s): round(s) sl X: slip X stitch(es), purl-wise and with yarn in back, unless otherwise noted st(s): stitch(es) W&T: wrap & turn M1: make 1 cast on 16 sts, 8 on each of two ndls. Rnd 1: k around. first row only, split sts onto 3 ndls 8/4/4 Rnd 2: ndl 1: k1, inc 1, k to last st, inc 1, k1 ndl 2: (sole): k1, inc 1, k across ndl 3: k to last st, inc 1, k1 repeat rnds 1 & 2 until there are a total of 32 sts on the ndls ndl 1: 16 ndl 2: 8 ndl 3: 8 3: knit 15 rnds short row heel 1: k across ndl 1. k across ndls 2 & 3 until last st. Bring yarn to front as if to purl, then slip st. (1 wrap created -- on purl rows, take yarn to back as if to knit before slipping st). Turn. (youll be working on just the heel, the other stitches will be held on one needle until later)

2: slip just-wrapped stitch. p across sts to last st. W&T. 3: slip just-wrapped stitch. k next 13 sts. W&T. 4: slip just-wrapped stitch. p next 12 sts. W&T. continue in progression, working one less k or p each turn, until 8 sts remain unworked in the center heel turning: 1: slip just-wrapped stitch. k 8 W&T (wrapped st will have 2 wraps) 2: slip just-wrapped stitch. p 8, W&T, turn. 3: slip just-wrapped stitch. k 9, W&T, turn. 4: slip just-wrapped stitch. k 10, W&T, turn. Continue in progression, working one more k or p each turn, until all heel sts have been worked. leg: start knitting on all ndls again, knit 2 rnds. Redistribute the 32 sts on the needles ndl 1: 12 ndl 2: 10 ndl 3: 10 Fan pattern: Rnd 1: K1, M1, k15, M1, K16 = 34 sts Rnd 2:*(K2 tog) 3 times, (YO, K1) 5 times, YO (K2 tog) 3 times* repeat until get to end of rnd Rnd 3: purl Rnd 4: knit Rnd 5: knit repeat rnd 2-5 6 times Cuff: Work in garter st for 3 rounds (purl a rnd, knit a rnd, purl a rnd), bind off. Cut yarn, weave in ends and seam the toe.
