Emergency supplies
Gather these supplies for an evacuation kit.

A gallon of water per person per day (two quarts for drinking, two quarts for cooking and cleaning), at least three days' worth. Ready-to-eat canned meats, fruits and vegetable. High-energy foods, such as peanut butter, jelly, crackers, granola bars and trail mix. Vitamins. Food for infants, the elderly or people on special diets. Pet food. Comfort foods, such as cookies, candy, sweetened cereal, instant coffee and tea. Mess kits or disposable plates and utensils. An emergency preparedness manual. Battery-powered radio and/or television and extra batteries. Flashlight and extra batteries. Portable, battery-operated DVD player and games for the children. Books. Fire extinguisher. Tent, sleeping bag or blanket. Plastic sheeting. Pliers, adjustable wrench and tape. Map with Texas county roads and compass for finding shelters. A whistle for the car, in case you're stuck in floodwater. First-aid kit. Fix-A-Flat. Portable grill. Car charger for cell phone.
