In the 1400s the Incas controlled a huge empire that numbered more than 10 million people. The Incas ruled their people with strict laws and an elaborate message system. Incas built a paved road system, irrigation canals, and massive stone buildings and fortress temples. Cuzco was their capital city, and Machu Picchu was an Inca city discovered in 1911.
Four main facts to remember about Lesson 83. Fall of Constantinople 1. Marked end of Byzantine Empire which had lasted over 1,000 years. 2. End of Christian Constantinople. Name changed to Istanbul. Hagia Sophia church became a mosque. 3. Many intellectuals fled from Constantinople to Italy and helped start the Renaissance. 4. This event marks the end of the Middle Ages.
