Given the projected severity of Hurricane Irene and its potential impact on New Haven, the City is now

calling for the mandatory evacuation of the areas colored in yellow, effective immediately. Residents of these areas should evacuate by 7:30 p.m. If residents of these areas have family members elsewhere in the City or State that will not be as severely impacted by the storm, we urge them to go there. The City does have emergency shelters set up in two locations around the City: Jepson School, 15 Lexington Avenue and King-Robinson School, 154 Fournier Street. We will accommodate as many people as possible. Residents who do not comply with the evacuation will be putting themselves and their families at risk. We expect these residents will be able to return home after the storm passes on Sunday. Please check the Citys website at www.cityofnewhaven.com for further information or call the Emergency Operations Center at 203-946-8221.
