p. 7, letter 45 Abundant blessings to the honored Rabbi, well-known gaon, our master, Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Hacohen Kook, may his light shine, head of the beis din [court] of Jaffa, may it be built and established, and only goodness to the eminent genius, may he live. Blessings to his eminence, may he live. At present there is a man in the holy city of Jaffa who originally comes from here, R. Yitzchak Meir Shafran, may his light shine. He traveled to Jaffa because he was ill and he needed to reside in a hot climate. He is a precious man in all ways, but he is in a terribly depressed state, and he is a father to sons and daughters. Therefore I ask that his eminence take positive note of him, support him and make [his situation] known so that others will support him [as well], for his life and that of his dependents requires this, and they are all upright and precious. I believe that it would be superfluous to say more. Therefore I keep this brief, [with wishes for] blessing and abundant good for his eminence, with the blessing of one who esteems him, Chaim Halevi Soloveitchik Tuesday 9 Marcheshvan 5669 (1908)
