Some of Galileos inventions

Galileo developed the thermoscope to measure hot and cold. Galileo would use a glass bottle about the size of an egg, with a long glass neck. He then heated the bottle with his hands and then immersed it partially in a vessal full of liquid. When he removed his hands, the liquid rose to a certain height in the neck, remaining above the liquid in the vessal. For more info: http://galileo.rice.edu/sci/instruments/thermometer.html

Galileo wrote an instruction manual for his sector (=compass) His students bought their own sectors, along with the manuals, from Galileo and received his private instruction on the subject. Look for more here: http://galileo.rice.edu/sci/instruments/sector.html

He began his study of pendulums after he watched a suspended lamp swing back and forth in the cathedral of Pisa when he was still a student there. Galileo's first notes on the subject date from 1588, but he did not begin serious investigations until 1602. To find out more on that subject: http://galileo.rice.edu/sci/instruments/pendulum.html
