-studies the behavior of individuals and groups and organizations as they act and interact to attain desired outcomes

What does it describe? -concerned with understanding in describing human behavior in an organizational environment to shed light on the whole complex human factors in organization by identifying the causes and effects At is its purpose? -it investigates the impact that individuals, groups and structure have on the behavior within organizations for the purpose of applying such knowledge to work in progress and organizations effectiveness

Nature of organizational behavior -aims to explaining predicting human


behavior in organizations -is action oriented and goal- directed -seeks to balance human and technical values of work. It tries to improve productivity by building and maintaining employee dignity satisfaction and growth. -It is a social science

With what basic sciences is it associated? It borrows concepts, principles and eighties, the discipline like Psychology, Sociology and Anthropology. Is it purely theoretical? It is both a science and art At what levels is behavior studied? Its study exists at three levels-individual, group and the organizational system . What is its characteristics? It is empirical,interpretative,critical and a sophisticated behavioral science .

It enables the person to understand himself and one others and improve inter-personal relations it helps to motivate people and get better results it helps to maintain healthy industrial relations it helps in understanding consumer behavior it helps the manager to function more effectively and efficiently
