Bright Futures Scholarship Ice Cream Social
The Florida Lottery and the University of Florida will host an ice cream social this Thursday, Sep. 8th from 11 12pm on the Plaza of the Americas. The first 300 Bright Futures students to check in and say Bright Futures Scholarships are Funded by the Florida Lottery will receive a free t-shirt! The event will include guest speakers and special surprises.

UF will hold a commemoration Sept. 11 at University Auditorium to mark the 10th anniversary of the U.S. terrorist attacks and honor its victims. The event, which is open to the public, is scheduled from 8:15 to 9:30a.m. Speakers will include UF President Bernie Machen; Wayne Griffin, associate director of the UF Counseling and Wellness Center; and Student Body President Ben Meyers.

Would You Like to Become a Mentor?

The Center for Leadership and Service offers 4 organizations geared towards mentoring within the Alachua County Public School System. Students range from K-12. To become involved, come out to one of the informational sessions. The informational sessions are August 30 and 31 at 7 p.m. and September 7 and 8 at 8 p.m. All informational sessions will be held in Reitz 349. Fall Student Organization Fair

Interested in learning about ways to get involved? Have you thought about joining a student organization? Come out to the annual Student Organization Fair this week! Join us on the Reitz Union North Lawn, North Terrace and Colonnade on Thursday, September 8, 2011, 11am-3pm and Friday, September 9, 2011, 11am3pm. Check out the amazing involvement opportunities at UF! Over 100 organizations will be available to describe these opportunities, answer questions, and help get you plugged in!

Gator Nights

Looking for a Friday evening activity? Join us at the Reitz Union for Gator Nights! Activities are free with your Gator1 ID card, including three showings of Kung Fu Panda beginning at 6:30pm. There will also be carnival games, candy apples, funnel cakes, Make Your Own Flip Flops activity and other crafts. For more information, visit their website at http://www.union.ufl.edu/gatornights/

Strengths Week

Interested in utilizing your Strengths to the best of your ability? See the attached flyer for upcoming events during Strengths Week here at UF. Be sure to RSVP to secure a spot at one of the several events including applying Strengths to branding, resume writing and leadership!

Sustainability Tip of the Week:

Chomp Down on Energy - Unplug small appliances and electronics when not in use, such as coffee makers, cell phone chargers or laptops. These items draw energy even when they are not in use.
