Rob Howard, MLA, Richmond Centre

One of the great strengths of our city is its rich cultural diversity. Over the past couple months, many events highlighting inter-cultural harmony and our strong ties with Asian countries were held in Richmond and around the Lower Mainland. Rob joined Premier Christy Clark and other MLAs at the annual Vancouver-Vaisakhi Parade in Vancouver. They had a great time greeting families along Main Street. Back in Richmond, Rob participated in many local events including the Chinese Federation of Commerce of Canada Fundraising Gala for the 2381 BCR Royal Canadian Army Cadets. Rob also had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Li Zhigang, Mayor of Guilin, who was leading a trade delegation to the Vancouver area. Another great event was also held at Aberdeen Centre. Premier Christy Clark was on hand with Rob, Ministers Shirley Bond and Pat Bell, and MLAs Linda Reid and John Yap for a Town Hall meeting with 200 members of the community. It was a great opportunity to hear questions from the community and strengthen relations. Rob also took part in welcoming a special delegation from Xiamen, China, which was here to sign a letter of intent between Xiamen and Richmond to become Sister Cities. As Asian Heritage Month comes to a close, it is a great time to reflect on Richmond's incredible diversity. And to recognize that this is an incredible gift. Our diversity makes our city a vibrant and exciting place. It also means that we have strong ties with a great many countries in Asia. In a time when Asian economies are growing so quickly, this represents a golden opportunity for Richmond.
