    Father Mychal Judge, a Franciscan Friar and chaplain to the New York City firefighters, was the first recorded victim of the 9/11 attacks. When the planes struck the World Trade Center, Father Mychal rushed to the scene to pray with and comfort first responders. He entered the North Tower with firefighters but was advised to evacuate by the mayor. Father Mychal chose to stay and offer prayers for the victims. While ministering to the injured in the lobby, the South Tower collapsed, causing debris that killed Father Mychal and many others.
