Dianas Disappointment: The Promotion Stumbling Block

Presented By: Anshuman Satapathy Biswajit Prusty Diwakar Mahadani Deepak Sahoo

Case Overview:
Diana was a General Manager, in a restaurant chain

for 12 years. Her ambition was to be promoted as the District Manager. Diana thought she is qualified for the position due to her performance and track record at work. She was interviewed twice for the post of District Manager but she was unsuccessful. Her explanation for the 1st failure was corporate politics. 2nd cue was she made wrong business decision. The logical expressions for the 2nd cue were hard task master, aloof, poor in social awareness etc.

Problems:
Lack of self management skill.

High self awareness.

Lack of social awareness. Poor relationship Management.

She was not innovative

Objectives:
Her ambition was to be a District

Manger, based upon her track and performance record.

Criteria:
Negotiating with every employees.

She should be friendly with her employees.

She should be an effective listener.

Conclusion :
In result, there is a gap between Diana and her staff.

Creating a situation where finally her staff feels no longer cant stand with her and decide to leave the restaurant. Thats why the turnover among her staff is high. Then, if Diana want to be promoted in the future, she had to develop her ability in managing the relationship. She must learn how to be more emphatic to the others feeling, in this case her employees feelings. She had to pay more attention to her staffs feelings, their wants, need, emotion. Perhaps, she also have to changed her leadership style, which is also influence by her lack of ability to manage others emotions.

Thank You
