enhanced functionality enabled by the Internet. It is
more than simply a list of local holdings; it is now
operating in a context of other catalog-like entities, and
it can be seen as a collection development tool. Earlier
work in subject access, indexing and abstracting, and
information retrieval (heirs to the documentalists
mentioned above) anticipates some of the impacts
catalogers are now feeling.
